Creating a Custom Work: The Story of a Creative Encounter

I regularly work on commission — for those who wish to have a piece created especially for them, one that resonates with their space, their sensitivity, or a particular emotion.
Each commission is a meeting point between an inner world and my own.

This summer, I had the pleasure of creating a custom piece for Nadège.

A commission born over dinner

We met during a dinner. The conversation slowly drifted toward my artistic practice, and she mentioned a piece that had particularly touched her — one I exhibited in 2022 at the Eurostar lounge.
From that shared emotion, the idea of a commissioned work naturally emerged.

In the weeks that followed, we exchanged messages and phone calls. Nadège envisioned a large, square-format painting — inspired by the color palette of the piece she had loved, yet with its own distinct energy.
Something new. Something personal.

Revisiting a palette… and pushing it further

I began with the original palette, but added new nuances that reflect my current explorations:
softer vibrations, subtler tensions, chromatic silences I might not have dared a year ago.

The square format, in turn, invited me to rethink the composition —
to seek balance differently, to redistribute the tension points, to slow the rhythm of the eye.

A creative dialogue

To guide our exchange, I shared several sketches on Arches paper.
By varying intensities and unfolding the palette in different ways, we gradually refined a direction that revealed itself naturally.

This process is always precious — it allows the artwork to emerge through a true dialogue, without compromise, but with mutual listening.

What I love about bespoke work

What I love most about custom commissions is this quiet co-creation.
My artistic freedom remains intact — but I open myself to someone else’s universe.
I translate a feeling, an atmosphere, a desire that often exists beyond words.
And little by little, something takes shape. Something true. Something unique.

The piece I created for Nadège is the result of this alchemy.
It carries my voice — but it belongs to her just as much.
